For Stag

Following on from our earlier exchange I thought I'd offer up a couple of European singers for your delectation. The first is Kate Rusby from Yorkshire, here in the UK;

and the other is Linde Nijland from the Netherlands;

Both have a gentleness of voice which I greatly admire and which might appeal to you in varying degrees?

Thank you so much for the link to Kate McGarrigle who isn't someone I've come across before. I absolutely love discovering new music in this manner, so your link certainly brightened up an otherwise dull afternoon for me :-)

    This is the one that I sing when I am teaching swordfighting...inside of course...

    But for witchy songs, its hard to beat Archie Fisher. Here is a version of Witch of the Westmorland as sung by Stan Rogers. The Canadian accent really doesn't work for this song, but for a bass singer, he is hard to beat.

    Thats not his best though...I think his best is "The Mary Ellen Carter", he is at his best with songs that he has sung himself.

    Hope you enjoy this little selection as much as I enjoyed yours!

  3. Wonderful! I mostly listen to neo pagan music these days but these kind of songs take me right back to my roots. One of my most favourites is in Gaelic which was featured on a fabulous BBC collaboration, the 'Highlands Session' a lot of which I think you can catch over on Youtube.

    I tried very unsuccessfully to learn the fundaments of Gaelic many moons ago - this always makes me want to take up the mantle again! :-)

    Well worth a listen to.

    Interestingly enough, the only Celtic College in the world is in Nova Scotia.... I guess its true what they say. Ye'll become more Scottish the further ye get from Scotland!
