Is it me, or did January seem a particularly grey month this year? Flat, dull, and with little cheer? On one of the very rare occasions when the sun deigned to shine, I went for a wander armed with my camera intent on photographing a lovely tree I've driven past hundreds of times during the course of my life. It's set on the edge of an army playing field but to my mind could easily be home to a whole ecosystem of fairy folk flitting invisibly around whilst superfit soldier types do whatever it is superfit soldier types do on their training days there.

It seems fairy folk are very tolerant beings, willing as they appear to be, to share their home with children who in time honoured tradition make camps in the woods out of old branches and prickly holly.....
Oh! Magnificent Tree! Love the roots. And how can children NOT be drawn to such magic?

That's my kind of tree alright... I love all those roots!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I agree with you about this January being a particularly *blechhh* one. Normally I love that month - so full of beginnings and promise.
ReplyDeleteYour tree, with its Fairy inhabitants hidden deep within the gnarled roots, picked me up though!
What a fabulous tree with all those arthritic roots.
ReplyDeleteThere's an award waiting for you over at my blog if you have time to check it out.
