Sunday Whimsy
Bit of an odd choice for me this week, but having seen the inclusion of Freddie Mercury at the closing ceremony of the Olympics last week, I was struck by the notion of just how much I took the music of Queen for granted whilst growing up as a teenager in the late 1970's early 1980's. They just always seemed to be there in the background somehow. It's only lately that I've come to realise quite how prolific and talented a musician Freddie Mercury really was - and of course a fabulously charismatic showman.
One voice, one instrument, yet here he has his adoring audience in the palm of his hand.
Hmmm and at the risk of sounding very much like my dear old Ma here.....you can actually hear and understand all the words!

I'm glad I don't use his tailor. Hearing words is really quite important, otherwise scat would be more popular.
ReplyDeleteI think I too appreciate his music more now than I did when he was around; I always found it too dramatic. Now I probably understand why!
I must confess I quite like all the theatrics and drama; I don't think any of it was taken too seriously, but it certainly added colour and a sense of showmanship into the equation.......which is maybe what the world needs every now and again!
