A real departure from the type of music I'd normally post. But it has a momentum which gradually builds to almost epic proportions. I like it's feel good factor....oh and the video's not bad either!
I loved that also. I also loved the juxtaposition between the futuristic vision and that of a more earthy ancient nature. Oh and the drums.....such a lovely tribal thing going on there!
It left me cold I fear.... though I did like the clapping accompaniment, and the earth guys were just precious!
Please take a moment an listen to k.d. Lang's version of this Len Cohen classic...

I like this version even better than Len's original! The sustained note at 4:46 simply makes my skin creep up into goose flesh!
(of course, nothing is as good as Leonard's original, sorry, not even Susan Boyle! (her version drags) I have heard that Leonard Cohen can't sing. I can get behind that, no doubt about it, nobody can sing as good as Leaonard can't sing.

The two songs back to back. You can thank me later.
K.D Lang is my secret girl crush, Stag, so no argument from me there! Susan Boyle, on the other hand, is waaay too middle of the road for my tastes. Leonard Cohen I can take in small doses, but only if I've ensured I've taken my happy pills first! :-P
I found a video last night which amalgamates two tracks off of Woodkid's new album. The latter is the video I've linked to here, but the former seems to run into it seamlessly so I'll link to it in a blog entry today for anyone who's interested :-)
I love that video... especially all the earthen men. The schoolboy warrior makes me think of Elidor or The Dark Is Rising...

DeleteThe video should win an award, if not the song.

DeleteOnce again, I'm not able to watch a video because of some ridiculous German law!!
ReplyDeleteI'm also a huge fan of K. D. Lang - and of Leonard Cohen. The latter might explain my cheery disposition...
