Recharging Our Batteries

Muse played at their hometown of Teignmouth last week and we were there........all be it two days after their appearance! The road crew were in the process of dismantling the stage scaffolding and such like, which was interesting to watch for a while. We hadn't planned to go there; it was more a diversion from a somewhat long drive down to Cornwall where we spent a few days staying in Travel Lodges and taking in the sights. To be honest, I think we'd have done better to have stayed in Devon - neither of us were that impressed with Cornwall which seems overhyped in the extreme and still very much swarming with tourists. Which of course is *cough* exactly what we were! Usually however we tend to go out of season to such places, which enables me to take photos for my stock account over on dA and suchlike. It proved pretty difficult this time around though - I think we probably went down there a little too early as everywhere seemed to be still selling tat and swarming with people. I didn't get to see the Witches Museum at Bocastle which I'd been looking forward to for ages either which possibly didn't endear me to the place - there were just too many people milling around to make it an enjoyable experience. I've become fairly 'crowd phobic' as I've got older and tend to panic when I feel hemmed in by folks. Oh yeah and the weather was pretty dire too for the first couple of days - thick fog and mizzle all the way! Bleurgh!

Devon was a bit of a revelation though - far less crowded with beautiful countryside - rolling hills, wonderful landscapes with hedges full of berries and autumnal fruits and plenty of places off the beaten track to explore. All in all it was a mixed bag of experiences - I only wish I'd got more chance to produce more photos for my stock account....oh yes, and seeing Muse play at Teignmouth would have been a highlight also. I love, love, looooove Muse!

In other news, Ian and I have decided to get married. We've lived together now for fifteen years and with his 60th birthday fast approaching, I think he's looking to secure my future 'in case anything untoward happens to him.' That might sound a little old fashioned and morbid and perhaps not the most romantic of reasons to tie the knot, but his own father didn't make old bones - he died suddenly at the age of 61 - and I think it's been playing on Ian's mind of late. I've never actually felt the need to be married to him - I did it once before and it didn't work out which proved to be a massive learning curve for me. I guess I grew up a lot after that and learnt not to assume anything, particularly when it comes to relationships. I've been far more cautious this time around I guess. But it feels the right thing to be doing after all this time. Nothing's written in concrete yet - no dates or venues set - no rings bought or anything like that, although I have to confess I've rather fallen for this snazzy little number which is completely out of character as I usually got for less bling;

There definitely aren't going to be any white meringue dresses going down when we finally do get around to doing it though. Jeans, a registry office and the obligatory two witnesses job will suit me just fine....
