Ian is busy trying to use up some of last years leave at the moment so we decided to take advantage of the National Trust membership he was bought for his birthday and trundled down to West Sussex to visit Nymans, something of a gothic pile that was mostly ravaged by fire in 1947. I've decided to very magnanimously adopt it as my new country retreat regardless of the fact that what's left is now an achingly beautiful facade of what once must have been a magnificent abode. The dovecote alone is nearly as big as our house!
Despite it being a weekday, there were a lot of visitors to the property and true to form the National Trust had a proportion of the house cloched under scaffolding, but I managed to grab a few photos for my stock account over on Deviant Art, unencumbered by too much 'clutter,' which I hope will be of some use to people. I use a lot of free stock photos in some of the photoshop work I do so I like the notion of being able to give something back every once in a while. I think clicking on the photos will enable a larger view - it seems to work for me at least!

That looks like a magical place! Very gothic, forlorn grandeur...
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you've been poorly, hopefully this lovely weather will lift your spirits!
Best wishes
Carrie...
It's an achingly beautiful place. I think perhaps the fire has made it more so strangely enough. We tried to go there last weekend but couldn't even get into the overflow carpark so it's obviously well visited - a little quieter on weekdays though which is better for taking photos.
ReplyDeleteThe sunshine is glorious isn't it - best tonic I know!
What a grand place and such beautiful photos. It is so lovely to meet people from all around- thank you for sharing these wonderful photos! Hope your spring weather holds for some more lovely visits and outings. Thank you for your kind comment on my blog!
ReplyDeleteWe visited Nymans a few years back when we were in England and I think it was one of my favorites. The shell of the house is haunting and somewhat magical. Your pictures are wonderful.

@Lori - I agree, it's fabulous meeting new creative folk in this manner. I'm naturally nosy so am in absolute heaven blog hopping and seeing what other folk are up to!
ReplyDelete@Cenya - I'd seen photos of it a few years back and always meant to go visit so was very happy to have finally succeeded! It is indeed a magical setting, and feels almost as though time's stood still there. Hope my photos brought back happy memories for you :-)
