Sunday Whimsy and a Few Images Thrown in for Good Measure

A bit of a mish-mash post today as I've been mulling over an idea which I'd love your input on if you feel so inclined to comment.

I've recently been thinking about having a go at opening my own Etsy store, with a view to perhaps selling some of my images as prints and cards etc, but I have absolutely no idea whether or not they would be the kind of stuff people would be willing to part money with for? I thought initially I'd just use my own photos which I'd digitally enhance in the manner shown below.

So for example this photo which I took a couple of years back at Odda's Chapel in Gloucestershire;

is turned into this;

This, of Mapledurham House in Berkshire;

is transformed thus;

and the chocolate box like Llanrwst Tea Rooms in Wales;

is made altogether broodier, minus the street signs, lamp posts and benches, in this manner;

(All photos my own, textures a mix of my own and those provided by Shadowhouse Creations.)

Unfortunately if I did decide to go down this route I'd not be able to use 'Kit and Kaboodle' as the name of my store as it's already taken so I've come up with two alternatives 'Ogham Moon' which is a slightly altered tribute to a favourite song by Matt Howden which I featured as a Sunday Whimsy recently, or 'The Thin Reflection Spins' which is a bit of a mouthful but is a line from another longstanding favourite song by Roy Harper;

All along the ancient wastes the thin reflections spin
That gather up the time and tides at once we once love within
That build the edges round the shrouds that cloud the setting sun
And carry us to other days, and other days to one...

What to do?!

  1. Hi Kate,
    I think why not give etsy a shot... it seems a good little market place and your images are great, so broody and olde worldy...
    I like both names... blimey, I used to listen to Roy Harper a lot in my teenage years... I wasn't your average teenybopper or whatever they call em these days! It was all Pink floyd, Hendrix, Led Zep with a bit of celtic folk music for good measure! (And of course like most teenagers probebly since 1969 onwards I used to turn it up for 'Careful with that axe Eugene' hehehe)

  3. Yes! You should give it a go. Your pictures are gorgeous. I'm sure you'd find buyers.
    As for the name, both are excellent, but the shorter "Ogham Moon" might be easier. (I don't really have a good sense for marketing and names though.)
    Do keep us posted.

  4. Funny what you come across on the net while you're writing and researching a new (and perhaps rather silly?) song entitled "All the Matt Howdens I am online" ;) Hi there :)

    The images are lovely, btw :)
    All the best, Matt
