Sunday Whimsy

Wearily to the last battle they strode
Onward through day and through night
To death they did go but they let them know the power of Angelisc might

Together they walked and together they'd fall
Under the Autumn sky
With victory song behind shield-wall strong
They slashed and they battered with pride

Over river and stream and through forest and field
They marched with fire in their eyes
Wiping the sweat from their brows
For miles they had fared and no effort was spared
On the day when our England died

Over river and stream and through forest and field
We'll march with fire in our eyes
Like the forefathers of old
For miles we shall fare and no effort we'll spare
Till the day when our England's revived

Lyrics by Wulfstan

  1. You know, I spent about an hour yesterday googling these chaps and trying to figure out how to incorporate them into my Viking "Burn 'em down" musical ideology (if Amon Amarth did nurseries, I'd make babies just to place 'em there!), but I am yet to get a clue. So I admit utter defeat- what historical period are they on about? Before you give up on me, I am a German ex pat and not immensely educated on english history other than what is common knowledge and obvious to a keen reader :/

  2. It's about the repeated invasions of England and the Anglo Saxon response in defending our shores from the likes of the Vikings and the Normans. If you're interested in Anglo Saxon history, there's a terrific drama you can watch over on channel 4's on demand site about the Norman invasion of 1066, and the Anglo Saxon response;

I think you can probably find it over on YouTube too if you look hard enough.

PS, There's a token viking in the drama - very easy on the eye!
