Vintage Treasures

I've been stuck indoors over the last few days with a tooth abscess and a rather fetching swollen face. Finding a dentist prepared to take on new NHS patients has been a nightmare (my old dentist in his wisdom has decided he's no longer prepared to treat anyone unable to go private which I can't afford to do) but after much phoning around I managed to find one fairly locally and am at last getting to see someone on Monday. After a week on anti-biotics and an assortment of painkillers I'd gladly allow her to pull the wretched tooth out without anaesthetic if it means I'll get rid of the awful gnawing pain I've poked up with over the last ten days or so. I really am a complete wuss when it comes to dental pain of any description and it's made me unbearably grumpy!

Having the concentration span of an aardvark at the moment and in an attempt to distract myself for a while I decided to clean up the zillion picture files I have on my computer and came across these vintage beauties, some of which I thought I'd share with you, all sourced from various locations around the net;

Is that enough for today do you think? I have hundreds more, but I think I'll leave that for another day!

  1. That is WELL wicked, especially the Lady of the Lake. Pretty inspiring!
    So sorry to hear about your tooth, I fear (almost) nothing more than toothache. Oh blessed be, NHS, you let- down of an entire nation.
    I'll hope you'll be fine soon, and even more so your tooth be saved!

  2. The pictures are great, I especially like the 3rd one, really evocative...
    Hope you will be rid of your toothache soon, there's nothing worse is there... I seem to be losing mine symetrically! Three out so far, but doing better than my brother in law who brushes his teeth religiously 3 times a day, never eats sweets and has had about 7 out!
    Oh well, grin and bear it I guess!(Sorry, terrible joke!)Seriouisly though, glad you found a dentist...

  3. Aren't they lovely? Old sepia photos are something of a passion of mine, there's something wistfully evocative about them that just appeals on so many different levels.

    @ lisbonlioness - don't you just love how the punt has 'Ye Ladye of Shalott' written on it - a bit like one of those old fashioned sweet shops except the photo's a feast for the eyes rather than the mouth!

    @ Swan Artworks - I'm a bit slow on the uptake and have only recently discovered George Seeley but instantly fell in love with his dreamy portraits - I'm a sucker for soft focus; combine that with sepia and I'm in seventh heaven! And yes Carrie, it was a terrible joke! :-P
