Bookish Inspirations

I have just bought two of THE most fabulous craft books from Amazon which were delivered late last night. The first is by assemblege artist Michael de Meng, whose work I've recently discovered and find most intriguing - how very English do I sound there?

The second, and quite possibly the one I'm most excited about was a bit of a shot in the dark for me, but it's on Mixed Media Mosaics by Laurie Mika. I've long admired collage and assemblege work but have never, as yet, had a go at doing it for myself. Whilst I really think I'm beginning to master the art of photoshop, I would also welcome time away from the computer, but finding a craft I can attempt with arthritic hands has proved something of a dilemma for me. It's quite frustrating at times finding yourself unable to do things when you're hands decide to give up the ghost, which mine do on occasion. Having a stab at mixed media mosaics however seems, at this point, somewhat 'do-able,' and I can always revert back to the computer when things start getting really difficult. I may even be able to incorporate the two skills (who am I kidding, I've a lot to learn yet!) together to eventually produce something unique to me.

I can't begin to explain how much Laurie's book has left me bubbling over with enthusiasm to try something new. I've a birthday coming up in a couple of weeks time so will hopefully be able to ask for a few things I'll be able to use in order to get started. Can't wait!
