Well I've gone and done it. I'm probably being overly ambitious but I've ordered some super sculpey, sculpey satin glaze, acrylic paint, one lot of mica powder in gold, and some waterslide blank transfers to get me started trying my hand at mixed media mosaics. The blank transfers are intriguing. If they do what they say on the packet, it will hopefully mean I can print off some of my own manipulations and other free copyright images that take my fancy in order to ensure the tiles reflect my tastes rather than those of other people. The sales pitch reads;
Using an inkjet printer, you can print off colour digital photographs, computer graphics, text and symbols and transfer them onto your chosen medium. Collate a number of images into a document, set to the size of the paper. Load the waterslide decal paper into your printer tray the correct side up and print. Once dry, cut out the individual transfers
Yeah, I think that's what I'll be able to do - if, of course, I can work out how to do it! Now I've just got to sit and wait for my parcels to arrive - patience never was one of my better virtues!
I've already started scouting around the house for things I can potentially use to imprint images into the clay, and I've a few ink stamps kicking around somewhere that I can play around with whilst I get familiar with the medium - essentially I'm just really looking forward to getting my hands dirty trying to do something new :-)
