Playing with Polymer

Ooooh a parcel of goodies has arrived in the post this morning! No paint on the horizon as yet, but I've got my clay, my transfer sheets, mica powder and glaze so I can at least start experimenting.

Okay, that was earlier, now I'm the proud possessor of a tray of dubiously embellished polymer tiles baking away in the oven...

Things I've learnt so far this morning;

1. Using an old plastic catflap door as a mat to roll said clay out on wasn't perhaps the best of ideas; despite having washed it twice, I still ended up with suspiciously grubby looking clay! Knew I should have bought black fimo and picked up some wax paper when I went shopping over the weekend.

2. Inquisitive cats and polymer clay aren't perhaps the best of mixtures when trying to be creative. Not only did I end up with grubby looking tiles, they're also magnificently embelished with a few stray ginger hairs....oh and a couple of black ones too for good measure. No idea where the single strand of tinsel came from, but that too has gone into the mix. I might end up as something of a wattle and daub expert at this rate.

3. Wonderfully understanding man though he is, Ian wasn't overly enamoured to discover me using his best sharpened cooking knife to cut my masterpieces with. Well, how was I to know he was to walk through the door just at the moment I took knife to clay? Note to self, must buy new knife and practise the art of looking desperately apologetic for the rest of the day.

So now my tiles are baking in the oven. I've read somewhere that if you overbake fimo it gives off the most obnoxious fumes, so I'm praying that the thermostat on our cooker isn't playing up as it is sometimes wont to do. I could be heading for a divorce before I'm even married should that arise!
