Hayfever Hell

One of the lesser delights (not that there are any delights you understand) about having a dodgy immune system is my ability to pick up all kinds of weird and wonderful allergies, including the dreaded Hayfever. Pollen counts in the UK over the last few days have been horrendously high and despite quaffing back vast amounts of antihistamines, I'm still sneezing for England and am considering taking shares out in Kleenex as I'm sure I'm currently doing my bit to keep the company afloat!

My poor border collie Millie, is driven to distraction by it all, and has taken it upon herself to either whine or bark every time I sneeze.....which is often, so goodness only knows what my neighbours think is going on listening to the cacophony of noise emanating from our house at the moment. Long walks or playing with her out in the garden for any length of time are currently out of bounds as the heat also affects my joints badly, so she's had to devise her own form of entertainment, as you can see from this photo.

In typical feline fashion, her best buddy in the whole wide world, Buster our homegrown kitty, thinks it's all much ado about nothing but does occasionally manage to muster up enough energy to look a little irritated when his 24 hour lounging session is interrupted by all the kerfuffle....

  1. You have my sympathies. I am lucky enough to not be bothered by hayfever, but my two kids are MISERABLE and each year their hayfever devlops into asthma. We live in the grass seed capitol of the United States, so not a great place for allergy sufferers.

  2. I have had a rough year this spring in California as well with allergies due to alot of rain and wind. My husband, son and dog seem to be immune - lucky them! Loved your post and wonderful photos. Thanks so much for your visit to my blog and kind comment. Take care!

  3. I was fortunate to not have developed it until well into my 30's but confess this year it's the worst I can remember it being. A friend and fellow sufferer swears that eating locally produced honey on a daily basis has reduced the side effects of her hayfever so I think next year I'm going to have to test that out for myself. You have to start eating it way before June though in order to build up an immunity to local pollen etc. That's the theory anyway!
