For Stag - Perspectives

I was going to try and answer your question about perspectives in the comment part of my last blog, but having tried, thought it might be easier for you to see a couple more of the photos I took last week. All be they very bad!

The first is of the Cherhill Horse, more information on which can be found here;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherhill_White_Horse

I love the notion of it once having had a glass eye!

Anyway here's the photo;

If you look to the left where I've scrawled the red arrow you'll see a 4X4 vehicle
coming down the road which might give you some idea of the horses scale.

The next image is taken from the road passing a couple of the stones at Avebury;

From what I could determine from the car, these wern't as tall as the stones in the photo I posted in my last blog, but seemed somehow more 'squat' if that makes sense, but you can get a fair idea of their size when you compare them to the people wandering around the site.

When you consider that Silbury Hill is entirely man-made, the enormity of the task undertaken by our ancestors is mindboggling. The general public aren't actually allowed to wander across to, or over it, but if you look at this photo I initially took from the road of it, you'll see a few black dots which were sheep grazing on the hilly incline.

Another view of Silbury with people to give you some sense of perspective is here;

The viewing point these folks are at is about 200-300 yards in front of the hill.

Ironically, Gretel Parker, someone who's blog I follow avidly, was also in the area on the same day as us. She also took lots of photos including one, which I mentioned I wish I'd taken, from another road, which gives you an alternative view of Silbury than the close up's I took. I think it's the 11th photo down on this blog entry;

As she says, the light of the car to the left of her photo, should give perhaps a better indication of the sheer size of Silbury than any shot you take close up.

Hope this all helps!

Kate :-)
